2013 Sawdust Art Festival Welcomes 18 New Artists

The 47th Annual Sawdust Art Festival runs June 28 through September 1, 2013

Laguna Beach, CA – The 47th Annual Sawdust Art Festival is happy to welcome 18 new artists to this year’s Sawdust summer festival. Seven new artists voice their sentiments as they anticipate their first summer season at the Sawdust Art Festival, below:

Lorraine Adler (Watercolor & Jewelry) – “I am looking forward to soaking up the festive creativity of the summer and to meeting the other Sawdust artists and visitors. Having enjoyed the Sawdust for so many years as a spectator, I am finally making the leap to the other side! Sharing one’s creative spirit is so rewarding and the Sawdust is the perfect place to do so.”

Lu Campbell (Painting) – “So far, I think summer is going to be a lot of fun. Everyone at the Sawdust has been so welcoming. It’s wonderful. I’m hoping to make a few sales as well. I’ve been juried out across the street and after many years, I realized I need to keep painting and the Sawdust is the perfect place that provides a market for those that want to make a living as artists. My inspiration this year comes from Italy, my second home, and I’m excited to share it with the Laguna Beach community.”

Alex Fritz (Glass) – “I chose to be a part of the Sawdust because it’s like the Disneyland of art festivals. It’s an overwhelming rush just walking through the front gate and taking in the village of artists’ booths, live music, great food, beer garden, etc. This year, I’m going to have a rustic beach theme since the shores of Laguna inspire my artwork. I’m going to fill my booth with hand-blown glass bottle tops of jellyfish, octopus, yellowtail and coral marble. I’m so excited.”

Deana Duffek (Painting) – “My artwork is inspired by multiple places and things, but I do draw quite a bit of inspiration from being around other artists. I think the Sawdust is a great opportunity for local artists to be involved with other artists and the community. I am thrilled to be exhibiting in the Sawdust this summer.”

Sarah Murphy (Photography) – “I’m excited about meeting fellow artists and to gain exposure of my travel-inspired photography. The Sawdust is the perfect environment for that!”

Ulrike Scheuchl (Photography & Digital Art) – “When planning a move from Europe to California in 2009, I immediately fell in love with Laguna Beach, mainly because of its artist community. Being surrounded by so many talented people, I got inspired to channel my creative skills to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming an artist. This is my first time exhibiting at the Sawdust summer festival and I am excited to show my work, which is a combination of photography and digital art, to the public.”

Helga Yaillen (Felt) – “I’m excited about rejoining the Laguna Beach artists community. I chose to be a part of the Sawdust Art Festival because my artwork will be exposed to people coming to visit from all over the world. The inner vision of my art is reflected in my patrons’ happiness and that’s what brings me joy.”
