Helga’s love affair with art began at age 18. As an exchange student in London, she admired a painting by William Turner at the Tate Gallery. Having been exposed to much art in museums in Europe, after her emigration to America in 1963, she studied art at the New Orleans Art Academy in New Orleans, Louisiana. After many years as a successful working artist in the media of oil, acrylic and pastel she reinvented herself as a fiber artist creating designs with wool. Felting is an ancient process. She assembles loose wool fibers on hand dyed a silk. Then she adds water and soap, pressing the fibers together, followed by a more vigorous process of agitation. Helga loves colors. Art training helps her with designs while enjoying the elements of surprise of fibers fusing together. With her colorful scarves and garments she hopes to invoke the joy of life. Each of her creation is unique and one of a kind.
