Sara Kirk was born in Coquille, Oregon and grew up on the Oregon Coast. She attended Reed College for two years, then studied art at Carnegie Mellon University. Sara received her B.A. from the University of California, Irvine. After studying graphic arts, at California State University, Long Beach, she spent five years working as a graphic artist.
Sara then returned to Long Beach to study metalwork and jewelry, selling her contemporary jewelry in stores around the country.
In 1993, at the suggestion fo a friend, she began making mobiles. Sara lives and works in Laguna Beach and San Francisco, California. Her annual participation in the Sawdust Art Festival has given her the opportunity to develop and refine her work.
