Artist Statement
Rooted in the rich coastal culture of Southern California, my work reflects a deep connection to the natural beauty and layered history of Laguna Beach, where I’ve lived and created since 1975.
My artwork covers a broad range of media, including ceramic sculpture, watercolor, and oil painting. My work has been exhibited in multiple galleries throughout California and for over 40 years, I have exhibited and sold my work at the Sawdust Art Festival. My ceramic installation, Postcards of Laguna, celebrates the town’s heritage through hand-carved relief tiles based on historical postcards—an effort to preserve and honor the evolving spirit of this community that has shaped my career as an artist.
Artist Bio
Sherry Bullard grew up in Southern California and has lived in Laguna Beach since 1975. She has continuously exhibited her artwork at the Sawdust Art Festival for over 40 years while serving on numerous committees including education, marketing and the Winter Fantasy. She was a Trustee of the Sawdust Artist Benevolence Fund for over 12 years.
Her education includes Orange Coast College, California State University, Long Beach and Laguna College of Art and Design. Her multi-media artwork covers a broad range of skills and talent including watercolor, oil painting and ceramic sculpture. Her work is in corporate collections of Kaiser Permanente and public art installations in the City of Laguna Beach. ‘Postcards of Laguna’ are a series of hand-carved relief tiles depicting scenes of historical postcards of Laguna Beach which are installed around the perimeter of the Old Pottery Place located at 1200 South Coast Hwy.
Sherry has been involved with LOCA Arts Education for over 30 years, a non-profit arts education organization offering innovative art programs and classes. She is an Honorary Board Member and currently is the Education Director.
