AUTUMN ART
Two-day Weekend Art Workshops Weekends September 12 – October 4
9 am – 4 pm on the Sawdust Art Festival grounds
Learn unique art techniques from Sawdust master artists! The Sawdust Art Festival presents 2009 Autumn Art, a series of hands-on two-day weekend art workshops, covering a wide variety of exciting media.
Offered in this year’s Autumn Art class schedule are the ever-popular glass blowing classes, painting in both acrylics and oils, fabric collage, mixed-media collage, watercolor painting, and printmaking.
Workshops include one-on-one instruction with local professional artists and fees include all materials and supplies needed.

Acrylic Painting with Instructor Charleine Guy September 26 & 27 and October 3 & 4 
This two-day workshop is for beginners, intermediate and beyond. Students can expect to paint one painting each day: flowers on the first day and a simple ocean scene on the second. Instructor and Laguna Beach artist, Charleine Guy, will provide one-on-one instruction and lots of fun, covering:
- process of sketching and blocking
- colors to use to achieve personal effects
- how to create a paint of interest
- basics of light and dark
- final phase is layering, key notes, lost and found edges
$165 class fee includes all materials needed.
Glass-blowing with Instructor Jason McQuaid
September 12 & 13
Come blow glass! This hands-on workshop will include one day of solid sculptural work, and one day of hand-blown glass. Students will keep their finished work and average five pieces during this workshop. No experience necessary. $265 class fee includes all supplies and materials needed.
Glass-blowing with Instructor Gavin Heath
September 19 & 20

With over 20 years experience, Gavin will teach students to how to blow glass and experience the process of turning molten glass into works of art. Hands-on basic and intermediate skills in glassblowing. At the end of the weekend students will leave with artwork they have personally created. $265 class fee includes all materials needed.
Glass-blowing with Instructor Mike Panetta September 26 & 27 Michael Panetta’s glass class will enlighten you into the world of glass-blowing. Each student will be able to make their own glass work to take home. This will be a fantastic hands-on class that you will always remember. $265 class fee includes all materials and equipment needed.
Glass-blowing
with Instructor Christopher Jeffries
October 3 & 4
This glassblowing class is an intermediate class designed for students who have experienced our previous glassblowing workshop. We will be learning the basic skills involved to work with glass. Getting to know the equipment in the hot shop and becoming familiar with the tools we use in the studio. $265 class fee includes all materials needed.
Hand-painted Silk with Instructor Reem Khalil
September 19 & 20, 26 & 27
Come and learn the concept art of silk painting. No art experience necessary. Hands-on instruction on making your own hand-painted silk piece, including scarves, wall hangings and sarongs. $165 class fee includes all materials needed.
Monotype Printmaking
with Instructor Hedy Buzan
September 19 & 20
Learn to make fun, one-of-a-kind prints in this introductory monotype class. We will work with both water and oil based inks. Techniques explored will include additive and reductive direct plate painting, stencil, enhanced drypoint, chine colle, relief techniques and litho transfer. Bring sketches, magazines and photographic imagery, and an open mind. $165 class fee includes all materials and equipment needed.
Multi-Mixed-Media Playtime with Instructors Cherril Doty and Suzette Rosenthal September 19 & 20 
We will be exploring different forms of self-expression and artistic identity in a positive, supportive and free-flowing setting. This is an opportunity to play in and with a variety of media such as paint, paper, fibers, and more to create an art piece, begin an art journal, produce artist trading cards and myriad other exciting possibilities. Collage techniques, textural substrates, image transfer techniques-it is all possibility in this class. Whether aspiring artist or established one, this class is just plain fun! Oil Painting with Instructor John Eagle
September 26 & 27 and October 3 & 4

Learn the basic steps of creating a successful landscape painting from Laguna Beach impressionist painter John Eagle. Capture a local seascape and landscape scene. Emphasis will be on value, design and harmony. Beginners to intermediate painters are welcome. $165 class fee includes all materials needed.
Textile Embellishment
with Instructor Olivia Batchelder October 3 & 4 
Learn to embellish fabric by mixing and layering five different textile techniques: needle felting, painting, printing, embroidery, and beading. We will make useful fabric collages or decorative clothing. Bring a garment you already have, or use the many lush materials provided to make a collaged artwork. $165 class fee includes all materials needed.
Watercolor Painting with Instructor David Milton
September 12 & 13, 19 & 20, 26 & 27 and October 3 & 4
Take the mystery out of watercolor painting and take this watercolor painting workshop for beginners to advanced students with Laguna artist David Milton. David has almost 50 years of experience in the medium of watercolor. He has received numerous awards and is a signature member of seven watercolor societies, including the National Watercolor Society. He will share his top tips for those wishing to gain first-hand experience in the medium. $165 class fee.
