SAWDUST ART FESTIVAL JUMP-STARTS 25TH ANNUAL IMAGINATION CELEBRATION WITH “CREATIVELY FUN FAMILY DAY”

Posted on April 13, 2010 by Sawdust Art Festival

Laguna Beach, CA – In collaboration with Arts Orange County, the Sawdust Art Festival proudly celebrates the 25th annual Imagination Celebration and presents its second “Creatively Fun Family Day” Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 11 am to 3 pm on the Sawdust Art Festival grounds.

Drawing over 600 visitors to the festival grounds last year, the Sawdust looks forward to another successful “Creatively Fun Family Day” featuring a unique variety of hands-on fine art and craft projects, demonstrations, information displays and entertainment, presented by various community and Sawdust artists, and local non-profit groups.

New this year is not only a different mix of art projects, local organization set-ups, glass-blowers and ceramists, but also exciting live entertainment. Scheduled to perform on the Main Entertainment Deck are alternative country rock band, City Country City, 16-member band ensemble, Swing Set Too, and special musical guests, the Sharp Brothers. Having recently moved to Orange County from Austin, Texas, the very talented fourth grade twins, the Sharp Brothers, are enthused about performing their set list on the Sawdust’s main stage. The Sharp Brothers performed regularly at a restaurant back in Austin, and have recently added various school functions and the famous Angel Stadium to their gig list.

Other highlights of this year’s “Creatively Fun Family Day” include:
• Ceramics Booth – The Sawdust’s popular hands-on clay booth will offer visitors the chance to try their hand at the potter’s wheel and “throw” their own clay pot to take home. Hand-building clay sculpting classes will also take place at the Ceramics Booth.
• Fine Art & Craft Projects with Sawdust Artists – Set up around the Sawdust grounds and also at the Children’s Art Spot and Sawdust Studio, many Sawdust artists will volunteer their time and expertise to host a wide variety of fine art and craft projects, including “Soda Can Pinwheels” with Carmen Flores-Tanis, “Pod Art” with Rosemary Rossi, “Watercolor” with Linda Velasco, “Finger Knitting” with Mary Keating, “Air Brush Painting” with Michael Brindley, “Hot Wax Dripping” with Lisa Genesta, “Sea Creatures” with Karen Talbot, “Origami” with Jenny Chen Morgan, “Eco Books” with Terrell Anansi, “Air Dry Clay” with Patti Klingenmeier, “Foil Impression Art” with Judy Kearby, and much more.
• Glass-blowing Demonstrations – The Sawdust’s famous glass-blowing booth will be in full-service, where visitors will be able to catch sight of live demonstrations by Sawdust glass artists Loren Chapman and Marni Spencer-Devlin.
• Local Community Groups – Several local organizations will be represented at the “Creatively Fun Day” by setting up educational displays and offering giveaways and art and craft projects, as well as performing at the Greek Grille area. Among these groups, the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach will also sell food and beverage as a fundraiser for their organization.
