SAWDUST ART FESTIVAL PRESENTS 2008 AUTUMN ART

  

(Two-day workshops taught on September 6 & 7,13 &14, 20 & 21, 27 & 28 and October 4 & 5)

Laguna Beach, Ca – The Sawdust Art Festival announces this year’s Autumn Art, a unique, hands-on art experience conducted over several weekends in September and October. Join several Sawdust artists from various media as they conduct one-on-one instruction in their own exciting discipline on the Sawdust grounds. Classes include:
• Glass Blowing with Loren Chapman – glass workshop. Experience the techniques of gathering glass, blowing the forms, and finishing the glass art piece. Loren will walk you through each step and will only touch the pipe in case of a problem. Each student will create two pieces of blown glass. o September 6 & 7 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. o $225 class fee includes all materials needed.
• Oil Painting with Charleine Guy – impressionist oil painting workshop. Learn a fun and easy way to oil paint a scene of Laguna Beach. Impressionist artist, Charleine, will guide you step-by-step through the painting process. This class if for beginner through advanced students. Each student will take home an original scenic oil painting each day.
o September 6 & 7, October 4 & 5, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
o $175 class fee includes all materials needed.
• Glass Blowing with Michael Panetta – glass workshop. Develop glass blowingskills and receive one-on-one training with instructor Michael. This workshop will provide an introduction to glass on Saturday with a brief demonstration for students to watch and learn. Each student will create his or her own piece of glass art.
o September 13 & 14 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
o $225 class fee includes all materials needed.
• Ceramic Class with Robert Jones – an introduction to shop practices and processes. Learn to hand-build clay forms using traditional methods and methods using combined pieces. This class will provide an introduction to the potter’s wheel emphasizing wheelwork and throwing skills. Cylinders, bowls and handles will be made, along with decoration and glazing.
o September 13 & 14 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
o $175 class fee includes all materials needed.
• Multi-mixed-media Playtime with Cherril Doty & Suzette Rosenthal – workshop using a variety of media including paint, paper, fibers and more. This is an opportunity to play with a variety of media, while exploring different forms of self-expression and artistic identity in a supportive and free-flowing setting. Students can begin an art journal, produce artist trading cards, and learn collage techniques, textural substrates, image transfer techniques, and many more possibilities.
o September 13 & 14, October 4 & 5, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
o $175 class fee includes all materials needed.
• Glass Blowing with Christopher Jeffries – glass workshop. Learn the basic skills involved to work with glass. In this class you will get to know the equipment used in the hot shop and become familiar with the tools used in the studio. No previous glass experience is necessary. Each student will create a finished glass piece.
o September 20 & 21 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
o $225 class fee includes all materials needed.
• Glass Blowing with Jason McQuaid – glass workshop. This hands-on workshop will include one day of creating paperweights and one day of blowing glass vessels (vase, bowl or cup). All work will be ground on a diamond wheel and polished in Jason’s studio. Students will keep their finished ground work.
o September 27 & 28 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
o $225 class fee includes all materials needed.
• Getting Wired with James Koch – 3-dimensional drawing and wiring workshop. Learn to draw in third dimension. Incorporate various methods of twisting, bending and weaving wire to create both abstract and representational work. This class will teach you how to explore creating your own designs, both abstract and realistic. Students are encouraged to bring their own found objects from home to incorporate into personalized wire sculptures.
o October 4 & 5 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
o $175 class fee includes all materials needed.
• Oil Painting with John Eagle – impressionist oil painting workshop. Learn the basic steps of creating a successful landscape painting from Laguna Beach. Emphasis will be on value, design and harmony. Students will follow along with a demonstration by John using brushes to apply oil paint on 12” x 16” stretched canvas. Each student will complete a painting each day to take home.
o October 4 & 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
o $175 class fee includes all materials needed.
