SAWDUST ART FESTIVAL PRESENTS 3rd ANNUAL GREEN DAY
(Sawdust’s Green Day takes place Saturday, August 7)
Laguna Beach, CA – Providing an interactive and educational “green” themed day for guests, the Sawdust Art Festival presents its 3rd Annual Green Day Saturday, August 7. Sawdust artists, staff and local organizations will share simple ways of becoming more environmentally aware. Many educational projects and classes will take place on the festival grounds, including the highlighted activities, and all are complimentary with admission:
• Transition Laguna Beach Seedlings Project (10 am – 4 pm) – Get a head start on your fall vegetable garden and make a mini plant pot from recycled materials and fill it with fall seedlings. Transition Laguna Beach offers a positive approach, and supports the community’s movement toward sustainability and resilience, in light of an uncertain energy future. Beyond their borders, they are part of an international network working with other communities as they thrive with local food, water, and energy. Location: by clock tower. All ages welcome.
• Laguna Beach Garden Club Garden Exchange (10 am – 4 pm) – Bring in “slips” from your garden, and exchange for other plants to diversify your landscapes. Water-wise and succulent plants will be donated by the Laguna Beach Garden Club, a local organization founded over 80 years ago dedicated to promoting education in gardening, horticulture, landscape and floral design, conservation, ecology, and bird life. The club also supports environmental projects and civic beautification. Location: by clock tower. All ages welcome.
• Eco Books (10:30 am – 12 noon) – Using newspaper headlines and images, express your pledge to becoming more environmentally aware and create a personalized green collage, taught by Sawdust Green Artist Terrell Anansi. Location: Children’s Art Spot. Ages: 6+.
• Sawdust Centipede (10:30 am – 12:30 pm) – Join Sawdust Found Object Artist, James Koch, in creating a giant centipede out of recycled materials including plastic jugs and soda cans. Location: by waterfall. Ages: 6+.
• Wyland Foundation Ocean Mural (11 am – 4 pm) – Participate in this collaborative ocean mural project and support ocean preservation. Wyland Foundation artist Patti Romo will help guide visitors in painting a 5’ x 10’ mural. The Wyland Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1993 by environmental marine life artist Wyland, dedicated to promoting, protecting, and preserving the world’s oceans, waterways, and marine life. Location: by waterfall. All ages welcome.
• Save the Bugs! (12:30 pm – 3 pm) – Using a wide variety of recycled materials, come create your own recycled “bug” and make a pledge to saving our earth’s wildlife. Bring your “bug” to the Main Entertainment Deck at 3:30 pm to enter our “Best Bug” contest. Location: Sawdust Studio. Ages: 6+.
