FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sawdust Receives Grant to Partner with  Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach, CA – The Sawdust Art Festival is proud to announce recently receiving a generous grant from the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts Foundation. As the 48-year-old festival expands its educational programs to include some of our community’s young underserved, the grant will assist in underwriting a collaboration between the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach and the Sawdust Art Festival in a new pottery wheel ceramics program taught by Sawdust artists and ceramic employees.

Regular attendees at the Boys & Girls Club on the Canyon Road, and the TLC branch above Bluebird Park, quickly fill the fifteen slots available on alternating Fridays from 3-5 pm. Each student is then given several minutes of personal instructions on “throwing” pots at the ceramic wheel by the highly skilled ceramic personnel. These eager young artisans are also given instructions on working with slabs of clay as they create their masterpieces before they are glazed and fired.

Emily Murray, local Boys & Girls Club Art Director, said she intends to have an art show at the club’s Canyon Road location alter this spring, “and the kids are talking about donating any money they make from the exhibition to local charities.” This theme of giving back to the community is what encourages the Sawdust Art Festival to collaborate with other non-profit organizations on programs such as this, further implementing its mission statement of educating the public on the arts created in Laguna Beach.
