(2014 Winter Fantasy opens five weekends: November 22 through December 21)

Laguna Beach, CA – The Sawdust Art Festival is proud to welcome 33 new artists to its 24th Annual Winter Fantasy show this holiday season. The following includes several quotes expressed by the new artisans:

Christopher Allwine (Fine Art Photography, Booth #517) – “I’m honored and very excited to be an exhibiting artist at the Sawdust Winter Fantasy. My distinctive photographs are created exclusively at night, utilizing a photographic technique called light painting.  This method involves augmenting scenes with handheld light sources, essentially enabling me to treat my subject like a blank canvas. Using theatrical and cinematic techniques, I rely on artistic instinct to manage composition, create mood, and lead the viewer’s eye.”

Judy Csotsits (Drawing, Jewelry, Prints of Drawings, Booth #113) – “As a contemporary fine artist I am looking forward to the opportunity to participate in the Sawdust Art Festival through which I can share my work with the community, as well as to establish strong relationships with other Laguna Beach artists.”

Scarlet Sparkuhl Delia (Modern Quilting, Booth #435) – “Growing up in Laguna Beach virtually guaranteed an education in the arts when I was a kid.   Since I started quilting and showing my work, the Sawdust Festival seemed a perfect venue to go back to my roots and become a part of this exquisitely creative organization.   This is a community of people who inspired the artist in me, and now I am able to share my craft with them. I create modern quilts that are functional (throw, bed, baby quilts) with an emphasis on color and texture, improvisational piecing and a contemporary twist to traditional quilting.   I use the scraps of all quilting projects in smaller textiles like scarves and ornaments.   Repurposing even the smallest piece of fabric is at the core of my craft.”

Dale Kubeska (Woodworking, Booth #131) – “I’ve been coming to the Sawdust Festival for 45 years and have always loved looking forward to seeing the new work exhibited every year.   I have always been inspried by the artists and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share a little of my passion in my woodworking medium.”

Ken Mattson (Mixed Media, Booth #327) – “When I married my wife, artist: Barbara Schuppe, seven years ago, I became her Sawdust-support-crew, helping with her show.  I’ve met literally thousands of Barb’s fans. And most of them have never seen my art.  I’ve been making art my whole life. It’s something I eat and breathe, I love it.  So I’m pretty excited for this opportunity to now show my art at the Sawdust too.”

Margaret Murray (Photography, Graphic Arts, Cards, Booth #301) – “I am so honored to be an artist at the Winter Sawdust Art Festival this year. I started with photography 30 years ago at Chapman University; however, I pursued a career in special education. In 2000 I broke my neck in my classroom and started a 14-year journey of 15 surgeries. I was given a digital camera but the images were too blurry due to my shaky hands, so I started manipulating them into beautiful pieces of art. It started as a prayer and a form of self healing, now it is to show people that anyone can creatively overcome any hardship in life.”

Adam Pierson (Ceramics, Booth #408) – “I have been coming to the Sawdust Winter Fantasy as a patron for years admiring and receiving inspiration to become the artist I am today. I am excited to bring my handmade stoneware pottery with its unique blend of colors and textures to this years 2014 Winter Fantasy.”
