THE 2008 SAWDUST ART FESTIVAL CELEBRATES ITS CLOSING WEEKEND
(Closing Day is Sunday, August 31, 2008)
Laguna Beach, Ca – The 2008 Sawdust Art Festival celebrates the end of its highly successful 42nd season with closing weekend activities Friday night, August 29 through Sunday, August 31. Take advantage of this final opportunity to meet and purchase art from over 200 Sawdust artisans. Special musical and educational events highlighting the weekend include:
• Reggae Friday with Urbyn Fyre – A hybrid of Reggae and Dance Hall, Urbyn Fyre delivers music that touches the heart and soul. James Ide’s captivating voice coupled with the talented rhythm section of Pinchface and Mike Burnham will bring you to your feet and onto the dance floor. Urbyn Fyre will perform Friday, August 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. on the Main Entertainment Deck.
• Sawdust Shoppe Specials – This year’s Sawdust merchandise, including 2008 t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, posters, aprons and tote bags, can be purchased at the Sawdust Shoppe while items lasts! Closing week specials are available daily until August 31.
• Watercolor Rainbow Fish Art Project – Young visitors can learn the special craft of watercolor at the Art Spot. A Rainbow Fish project will be taught to illuminate the many palette options and wide variety of watercolor shades.
The Watercolor Rainbow Fish project will be taught Saturday, August 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Children’s Art Spot. Ages 5 and up welcome.
• Dance Night Saturday with Missiles of October – With their solid playing and amazing harmonies, The Missiles of October, led by singer-songwriter Poul Pederson, have been dazzling audiences at The Belly Up Café, The House of Blues, The Marine Room in Laguna Beach and various cities throughout the U.S. and United Kingdom. Richard Bredice’s wild yet melodic guitar licks combined with the solid rhythm section of Jimmy Perez on bass and Frank Cotinola on drums creates a perfect blend of soul, rock, blues and folk. The Missiles of October will perform Saturday, August 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. on the Main Entertainment Deck.
• Bubbly Fish Mobile Art Project – Come create a decorative hanging mobile featuring various media at the Art Spot. Young visitors can use their imagination to create a personalized art piece, perfect for displaying from the ceiling. The Bubbly Fish Mobile project will be taught Sunday, August 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Children’s Art Spot. Ages 5 and up welcome.
• Closing Night Celebration with World Anthem – A blend of soul, reggae and R&B, World Anthem has been honed through consistent and tireless live shows throughout Southern California. It is a pleasure for devout fans and newcomers alike to watch Ronnie (vocals), Kevin (bass), Jelani (vocals/keys), Dave (guitars/vocals), Marcus (guitars/vocals) and Rock (drums/vocals) perform live. Their distinctive musical sound is a culmination of the band’s culturally diverse background giving World Anthem global appeal. World
Anthem will perform on Saturday, August 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. on the Main Entertainment Deck.
Come see the 2008 Sawdust grounds for one final weekend before it transforms into a Winter Fantasy. The Sawdust Art Festival is open daily 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until
Sunday, August 31. Parking and free trolley service to and from the Act V lot is available for $7 per day. Act V is located on Laguna Canyon Road one-half mile
north of the Festival. There is also metered parking along on Laguna Canyon Road for $1 per hour.
