Sheri Cohen ~ Indigo Lights

In my work I use many interesting materials such as precious metals, interesting stones, fossils, and fused glass. Combining the concept of jewelry with the 3 dimensionality of sculpture, creates a unique boldness, moving jewelry into the realm of wearable art.

ART MATTERS

Art raises up our culture and connects us to our past. Using the art of adornment to communicate, taps into the universal archetype of the strong, self confident woman. My art is not for the timid. I use drama and unexpected combinations to create an environment for my designs to stand out and be noticed.

TECHNIQUE

Fire is the most important aspect of metal smithing. Controlling the torch and understanding how the flame affects the material being used is what makes the difference between success and failure. I specialize in lost wax casting. I don’t use molds, but create one of a kind pieces. I also fabricate, using both sterling silver and copper. I use such unusual stones and other embellishments, that I make my own bezels.

I teach both casting, metal smithing and beading as a non traditional art form at the Irvine Fine Arts Center in Irvine Ca. I live with my husband, Brain Giberson, who is a mixed media artist, in southern California. We show our work at art shows all over the west coast.
