Artist Bio
Amy Rose Hammond is an artist born and raised in Laguna Beach. After a 10 year hiatus from art, she has recently begun to create again, exhibiting vibrant contemporary pieces this summer at the Sawdust festival. Her new mixed media work is a complete 180 from the sometimes-moody streetscapes that she used to favor.
Resin is a completely new medium for the artist, she started experimenting only a few years ago Her new work marks a striking departure from the moody streetscapes she once favored, diving instead into the vibrant world of resin. This medium—still relatively new to her—captured her imagination just a few years ago when she set out to capture a specific color. What began as an experiment soon evolved into an all-consuming passion. Amy was mesmerized by the depth and intensity of color she could achieve with resin, which quickly became her medium of choice.
Her resin pieces are an exploration of color itself. Layer after layer of tinted resin, sometimes combined with acrylic paint, are poured meticulously onto each panel, resulting in rich, luminous works that are both tactile and ethereal. Each piece is a “color study,” a thoughtful and experimental process that results in a completely unique, one-of-a-kind creation. The way the resin catches light gives each work an almost otherworldly depth, with hues that seem to shift and change as you move around them.
Amy creates in her garage studio in North Laguna. It’s here that her “color studies” come to life—layer by layer, experiment by experiment. The end result is an ongoing journey into the transformative power of color, where every piece is a window into a world of rich, radiant possibility
