Artist Statement
Much of my art embraces the ancient Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-sabi, the acceptance of beauty that reveals the passage of time, discolorations, corrosion, and even rust. Many of the subjects I paint such as vintage neon signs, gas pumps, and collectables portray those elements with their pealing and faded paint and rustic patinas. I also strive to incorporate dramatic and unique patterns of light.
For more than fifty years, I’ve been painting 20th century cultural artifacts. Each subject—whether done in watercolor, oil, or pastel—tells a story and captures the essence of a bygone era.
