Artist Bio
GREGORY LINCOLN Born in 1952 in Phoenix, Arizona; Gregory is a native ofthat city. Although always interested in design and color he did not become serious as an artist until stydying for his B. A. in History at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. While there, his visits to the great Museums of Boston including the Gardner Museum, the Fogg Art Museum, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts inspired him to do artwork of his own. He enhanced his art training at the Laguna Beach School of Art (now ICAD) graduating with a B. F. A. in Painting Degree in 1982. In 1985 he com- pleted his M. F. A. in Painting at Claremont Graduate School (now Claremont Graduate University). For his Master’s project he completed tad series of seascapes of Venice Beach during times of day and might during the autumn, winter, and early spring. This method of out of doors painting is called “plein air” from the French Impressionists who painted in “plain air” or in other words…painted or location rather than in the studio. This mode has continued to be his primary technique since; although Gregory also paints Works inspired by Folk Tales and International Flags. As Gregory stretches most of his canvases…many of his works are long, narrow works suggesting the horizontality of land, sea, and skys and visualizing a specific scene through seeréesof changaable moods of season, light, and weather. Gregory has exhibited in numerous single and group exhibitions throughout the southland.
