Artist Statement
My abstract paintings are fueled by instinct and emotion, focusing on texture and bold forms to express feeling. I start each piece without a set plan, letting the process unfold naturally.
I use acrylics on canvas, layering with brushes, palette knives, and found tools. Texture and color are key, often creating a tension that invites a physical response from the viewer.
Drawing inspiration from cave art, abstract expressionism, and the beauty of worn surfaces, I paint because it’s how I connect with the world. My goal is for viewers to feel something real when they see my work.
Artist Bio
Gregory Sheets is a Laguna Beach-based abstract painter whose work channels raw emotion through bold, textural forms. With a BA in Studio Art from UC Irvine and over 15 years of practice, he creates instinct-driven pieces that favor feeling over precision. His work blends primitive energy with a refined artistic eye, balancing chaos and control.
Guided by intuition, Gregory uses layered surfaces, gestural marks, and unexpected color to explore the unconscious. Each piece invites an immediate emotional response.
This is his debut year at the Sawdust Festival, where he looks forward to sharing work that speaks through texture and connects through feeling.
