Artist Statement
I began drawing as a young child, always doodling. I recognized early on that art is a part of my soul, and creating fuels my spirit.
As a versatile artist on a relentless creative journey, I constantly seek new inspirations and expressions. I strive to be innovative and unique through my use of various media and textural elements.
I passionately explore the realms of creativity with a desire to capture and celebrate the essence of nature and the intricate beauty of the world around us.
“Form itself, even if completely abstract … has its own inner sound.” ~ Kandinsky
Artist Bio
Kerry Rutherford is an accomplished artist specializing in mixed media and painting. Her work is innovative and captivating, utilizing various materials and three-dimensional aspects to bring new life to familiar subjects.
A native Californian, Kerry developed her love for the ocean as a child, spending most of her time at the beach or sailing…often with a sketchbook in hand. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from UC Santa Barbara, the perfect setting for an artist inspired by the marine environment.
When she is not creating art, Kerry spends much of her time studying the different moods of the ocean, both from the shore as well as immersed in the ocean. Her art brings to life her love of the outdoors and endless hours of observing the natural world.
Kerry has also worked as a muralist and decorative painter in California, Utah, and Colorado. She now works out of her home studio in Laguna Beach.
Kerry’s work is currently displayed at the Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna, and the Montage Resort Laguna Beach.
