Artist Statement

Keeping the fluidity of the glass in my forms has always been a focus of my work. Utilizing layers of glass, color, and negative space, the viewer discovers the lines created not only outside but inside the form.

Artist Bio

Marcus A. Thesing, a glass artist, was born and raised in Southern California. His early exposure to art, nurtured by his father’s profession as a sculptor, instilled in him a profound fascination for three-dimensional art.

Throughout his artistic journey, Thesing has explored a diverse range of mediums, including figurative sculpture, drawing, computer graphics and photography, 3-D color and design, painting, and bronze casting. He absorbed techniques and found focus in his exploration of various artistic disciplines.

A pivotal moment in Thesing’s career came when he met John Barber, a renowned glassblower residing in Laguna Beach. Barber invited Thesing to visit his glass studio, where he witnessed the transformative process of molten glass being transformed into artistic creations. The surreal experience left an indelible impression on Thesing, captivating his attention and igniting his passion for glass art.

John Barber extended an apprenticeship offer to Thesing, and he remained under Barber’s guidance for a nine-year period. During this apprenticeship, Thesing honed his craft and developed a unique artistic style that blended his deep appreciation for nature with organic color patterns and glass shapes.

In 2003, Thesing opened his own studio in Laguna Canyon, where he continues to nurture his artistic vision. His work is exhibited annually at prominent events such as the Festival of the Arts, Sawdust Festival, la Quinta Arts Celebration, and other showcases throughout Southern California. Additionally, his artwork is showcased in galleries in southern California, reflecting his commitment to sharing his creations with the art community.
