Artist Statement
I am inspired by the beauty and elegance in nature where the elements of symmetry and the imperfect come together in harmony. My designs are often conceived while traveling and realizing my oneness with nature. The end result is an actual thing occurring in nature or a spiritually inspired design like my “Inner Journey”. I’ve been creating jewelry for more than thirty years and the journey itself is inspiration. I believe creativity is the instrument for me to connect light to light, and soul to soul with other human beings.
After years of creating jewelry it’s the creative process and inspiration that I’m most passionate about. My perseverance and resilience have brought me to today. Taking the next indicated step and letting go of outcomes is a continuing process that helps me stay in the flow and place the spiritual over the material.
Artist Bio
MerriJane Morrison has been creating hand crafted, original sterling silver jewelry for over 20 years. After graduating from UCLA in 1984 with a degree in design, MerriJane continued her education at Pratt Fine Arts in Seattle where she first began experimenting with various techniques in jewelry making. “The technique I use now is lost wax casting. I also use 18k gold to enhance the sterling,” says MerriJane.
It is clear to see that she’s inspired by the beauty and elegance in nature, where the elements of symmetry and the imperfect come together in harmony. Her work
is organically styled, sophisticated and boldly accented by semi-precious stones. Before showing at the Sawdust Festival, MerriJane was represented in New York but was strictly wholesale and sold to stores all over the world.
Now in her seventh season at the Sawdust Festival, she adds a fresh perspective to the world of jewelry as art by pairing refined sculptural motifs with rough faceted stones to create one-of-a-kind pieces. You can find MerriJane and her unique designs at the Winter & Summer Sawdust Festivals.
