Artist Bio
Jason and Nicole McQuaid have been working with hot glass in their private studio since 1996. Combining traditional Italian-style blown glass techniques with innovative torch working methods. Their creations range from impressionistic color patterns in organic forms to sculptures which represent sea- life, Desert botanicals and abstract ideas. Combining glass with metal has lead to large-scale sculptures in public places including the “Tower of Orbs” in Laguna Beach. Other public art sculptures have been featured at Orange County Airport, Long Beach Marina, Monarch Beach at The Ritz Carlton.
Early works are held in the permanent collection at LACMA(Los Ángeles County Museum of Art) And their art is featured in esteemed galleries and museum stores across the country. Both originally from the seaside art colony of Laguna Beach, Jason and Nicole fell in love with glass as an artistic medium during college. taking the TA positions they learned together the art of building equipment for glass making and have continued to work together with this fascinating material for over 30 years! While participating in the fine art shows of the 1990’s they created a solid foundation for their careers in art and continue to display with the finest art events in the country.
They are both decorated with several prestigious awards in art and design from cities and art organizations over the years. They have exhibited at over 75 art festivals nationwide including the Festival of Arts. they decided to move their hot glass studio after 20 years in Laguna Canyon to Palm Desert and now have settled it in the village of La Quinta, in the beautiful Coachella Valley nestled in a desert mountain cove.
Summers they return to their cottage in Laguna Beach where they continue to demonstrate glass blowing to the public. Jason builds and maintains the famous hot glass studio at Sawdust for demonstrations and Nicole is currently serving on the Board of Directors. They both enjoy sharing the art of glassblowing to the public and provide demonstrations and workshops to benefit the communities in which they reside and beyond.
