“From the Eye through the Camera to the Eye”
I have always been captivated by the way water moves — how it sparkles, shifts, and shapes the world around it. Through my seascapes and water-inspired pieces, I dive into the playful, ever-changing spirit of the ocean and coastline. My photography captures those moments of magic: a glint of sunlight on a wave, the soft pull of the tide, the dance of sea foam against the shore. My “Under the Pier” series has a focus on architecture, color and black and white photography.
Working in mixed media allows me to push beyond the frame, layering textures, colors, and found materials to create pieces that feel as alive and fluid as the sea itself. I love blending the real with the imagined — where a photograph might meet a splash of paint, a curl of paper, or a shimmer of metallic leaf — to mirror the energy and surprises of the natural world.
The ocean is never still, and neither is my work. Each piece invites viewers to feel the breeze, taste the salt in the air, and lose themselves in the rhythm of the waves. Whether serene or wild, my art celebrates the endless conversation between water, light, and land — a joyful, ever-evolving dance that reminds us to stay curious and open to wonder.
I want people to feel a little like jumping into the surf: exhilarating, unpredictable, and full of wonder. Each piece I create is an invitation to wander barefoot along the shoreline, to dive deep, to get a little lost, and to find joy in the unexpected.
Artist Bio
I grew up in a rural pocket of Southern California, where we grew our own vegetables, splashed in the mud, and looked after a lively crew of farm animals. A camera was never far from my hand—I loved capturing whatever caught my eye, whether it was a curious goat, a patch of mushrooms, or the weathered old barn. Even today, I’m drawn to the beauty hiding in the everyday.
My love for island life started early, thanks to a third-grade teacher from Hawaii who made a lasting impression. At 26, I followed that dream all the way to Maui. After years in the Islands, I eventually made my way to Florida, Virginia Beach, and later to the beautiful coastal town of Laguna Beach—always staying close to the ocean. These days, my work is best described as “Art inspired by the Sea.”
One of the things that brings me the most joy is hearing from collectors. When someone shares their own memories—the why behind a piece they chose—it’s pure magic. Whether it’s a childhood spent on sandy shores or a love story tied to a favorite coastal town, these stories remind me we’re all connected by the places we hold dear.
Although I’m primarily self-taught, I had the privilege of learning from a few old-school masters of film photography and darkroom magic. The darkroom was my playground, a place where light, shadow, and creativity came together. I still shoot with film when I can, though most of my work today is processed digitally, blending classic techniques with modern tools. I see the world as if through a lens—always looking for that moment worth capturing.
I now call Orange County home, where I live with my two spoiled cats, Hurley and Dusty, who keep me smiling (and on my toes) every day.
